The third installment of the popular horror saga Orphan has officially received the green light, with Isabelle Fuhrman (The Hunger Games, The Novice, and Showtime's Masters of Sex) set to reprise her iconic role as Esther. The actress, recently seen in Kevin Costner's Horizon, will be joined by the return of screenwriter David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill and The Family Plan) and director William Brent Bell, known for the series The Boy.
Although plot details are still top secret, the project has been announced by production company Dark Castle Entertainment, as Lionsgate prepares to present it at this week's American Film Market. Norman Golightly, co-CEO of Dark Castle Entertainment, said: "We are thrilled to announce a terrifying new chapter in the Orphan saga. With the success of the first two films and a compelling new storyline, we are confident that Orphan 3 will be a must-see for longtime fans and those new to the franchise.”
Dark Castle will produce the film alongside Alex Mace of Gnosis Films, with David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick serving as executive producer. Lionsgate will handle international sales. The Orphan franchise has grossed approximately $125 million globally to date. The first film, released in 2009 and directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, has become a cult horror film. The story follows a couple who, after the tragic loss of their son, decide to adopt a nine-year-old girl who hides disturbing secrets.
