In this final tail end of 2024, Warner Bros. has decided to change the release dates of some of its most important films, including The Batman 2. Previously scheduled for release on October 2, 2026, the sequel to The Batman has now been postponed for a whole year, with the new release date set for October 1, 2027. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is expected to begin filming next summer, rather than in the spring as previously reported.
The October 2, 2026 release date has consequently been assigned to the untitled film directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, and starring Tom Cruise. The film is expected to bring to the big screen the story of a powerful man trying to save humanity from an impending disaster of his own making. But that's not all, because Warner Bros has moved the release of Mickey 17 from April 18, 2025, to March 17, a date previously held by the horror film Sinners (horror with Michael B. Jordan), which will now be released on April 18.
The Batman 2 | Production Notes
The Batman Part II will be directed by Matt Reeves, whose commitment will also extend to the screenplay level in collaboration with his partner Mattson Tomlin. Clearly, Robert Pattinson will reprise the role of Bruce Wayne, and obviously his alter ego, the Crusader of Gotham. On the casting, likely, Colin Farrell will also return in the role of Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Zoe Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, and Barry Keoghan as Joker.
As we now know, The Batman 2 will be distributed through the DC Elseworlds brand, an asset detached from the new reality known as DC Studios, whose CEOs are James Gunn and Peter Safran. In this regard, you can find at this address the films and TV series that will be part of the first phase of the immense DC Universe project. The film will be released in US theaters on October 1, 2027.
